Jones Motorsports announces return of Brooks Motors (Chevrolet) as sponsor for 2013

January 22, 2013

#!2 Brooks Chevrolet driver Chip Jones gets picture taken after Feature win in Street Stock
Whynot Motorsports Park standout, & participant in the Mississippi Super Street Showdown, driver Carl “Chip” Jones of #12 Jones Motorsports, had some exciting news to announce today. Brooks Motors ( buyatbrooks.com,) of Thomasville AL, recently signed on for another year as a full time sponsor for Jones Motorsports as they get ready to run for the championship in the newly formed Mississippi Super Street Showdown series.

Chip Jones & his father (Carl Ray Jones), of Sweetwater AL, were regulars at Whynot Motorsports Park in 2012, after moving up from the Pure Stock division in 2011. It was on June 30, 2012 when Chip was able to bring his #12 Jones Motorsports & “High Roller Chassis” to its first Heat win of the season, but unfortunately finished a dismal 11th in the feature after getting into a late accident.

After almost a month off due to wet weather, (August 11, 2012) Jones Motorsports brought a rocket ship to Whynot Motorsports Park. The “Brooks Motors Chevy” sponsored #12 was fast off the hauler that night , as he was able to collect his 2nd Heat win of the season. Jones Motorsports and Chip showed their true strength as a competitive team, earning the nickname "Dirt-Track Rockstar", by beating out crowd favorite #7x Kyle Rutledge and #2G Jeffery Walker and sweeping the night, taking his first Street Stock feature win of 2012.

Chip was very confident that the boost he received from his sponsor, Brooks Motors, will be what he needs to compete in this year’s inaugural racing series. When earlier announcements were made about the new NeSmith Street Stock series, Chip was very excited saying “I’m glad they formed this new Street Stock division”. He added, “Puts everybody on the same playing field and a real chance at promoting my sponsors, with outside recognition and a cool trophy". With 3 wins already under his belt, I look for Chip and the #12 Jones Motorsports Chevrolet to be very competitive this upcoming season.

WhynotMotorsportsPark.com has not yet released their 2013 season schedule but there are a few dates that are already set. The “World of Outlaws” Late Model Series will be making their debut at Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday March 23, 2013. Make sure you make your hotel reservations early so that can guarantee yourself a good time at one of the BIGGEST races in Whynot Motorsports Park history.

Feeling A Draft: Pack Mentality Returns To Daytona

Drivers Test Drafting At Daytona For First Time In Gen-6 Car

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 11, 2013) – Day 2 of Preseason Thunder at Daytona International Speedway offered a little bit of everything, with the highlight coming in the afternoon as the pack returned to the high banks.

Friday’s second session opened with a multi-car pack working on drafting around the hallowed 2.5-mile superspeedway. About an hour into the afternoon test session, a 12-car accident ended several teams’ day.

During Day 2’s media availability, NASCAR’s 10-time Most Popular Driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. talked about his anticipation for the upcoming 2013 season.

“I feel like that the sport is in a good healthy place,” said Dale Earnhardt Jr. “We have a good opportunity to grow.  With this car we have a chance to do something great and really make a big impact … I think the racing is as exciting as it has been in a long time.  You look at some of these old races and look back at some of the events that we had in the ‘80s and the ‘90s … it always is changing and it always will, but I think we have improved it.”

Trevor Bayne, the 2011 Daytona 500 champion, posted the fastest lap of both days at 199.650 mph, set in the afternoon session.

"The biggest thing was just how the draft was working more like it used to be,” said Martin Truex Jr. “There were no two-car tandems, it was cool being able to back up off the leader and get runs and take the lead and do things like you used to do.  It has a little bit more strategy involved than just holding it wide open and hitting the guy in front of you as hard as you could, so I thought it was cool.”

With The Sprint Unlimited (Feb. 16 on SPEED, Motor Racing Network Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio) and the Daytona 500 (Feb. 24 on FOX, Motor Racing Network Radio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio) a little more than a month away, Greg Biffle is readying himself for what he believes will be a “fun” and “exciting” Speedweeks.

“The cars are stuck less and they are looser,” said Greg Biffle. “That is good for racing. It is good for the fans. It will make it more exciting and make pit strategy come into play. If you put tires on, you will be able to go faster. I think all of that is good. This is going to be a heck of a race. I like that the cars were sliding around and hard to drive. It will make it a fun race.”

Off the track, Jimmie Johnson, 2006 Daytona 500 winner, has partnered with Daytona International Speedway to provide fans with “The 48 Experience,” the ultimate race fan package for the Daytona 500.

“I became a fan of racing as a kid and I think the future of our sport really relies on connecting with the young kids and helping them get involved in the sport and understanding and being around it,” said Jimmie Johnson. “Hopefully, this program can contribute to that.”

“The 48 Experience” and great seats are still available for the 55th Annual Daytona 500 on February 24.  Call 1-800-PITSHOP or visit www.daytona500.com.

Tomorrow concludes 2013 Preseason Thunder for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams. Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition, will be available in the media center at 12:30 p.m.

Daytona On Deck For Best Of NASCAR’s Short-Track Stars

UNOH Battle At The Beach Final Event Details Announced

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 11, 2013) –Nearly 11 months ago, NASCAR and Daytona International Speedway announced the concept of a unique short-track event to take place Feb. 18-19 during the 2013 Speedweeks. With the kickoff just over five weeks away, the anticipation and excitement around the inaugural UNOH Battle At The Beach continues to rise.

Friday, NASCAR released the entry blanks to the competitors that outlined the complete details, from the final event schedule to the complete race format for the special non-points events.

“Our team has devoted a great deal of time generating feedback from not only drivers and owners, but fans and media as well, to work to create a truly special event that will serve as the crown jewel of the short-track calendar,” said Brad Moran, NASCAR touring series director. “The end result is a format and rules package designed to showcase the best talent throughout NASCAR’s regional and touring series.

“The benefit of this being a completely new and unique event is we were able to take a fresh look at everything and really create something special and exciting.”

The UNOH Battle At The Beach will take place on a .4-mile oval located on the Superstretch at Daytona International Speedway. The two-day event will begin Feb. 18, the day after pole qualifying for the 55th running of the Daytona 500 and setting the stage for the “World Center of Racing” to host the entire spectrum of NASCAR racing during Speedweeks.

Highlights of the UNOH Battle At The Beach include:

· Three 150-lap features: the Late Model division of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tours and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series.

· The final race for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be Monday night, while the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tours and NASCAR K&N Pro Series will be Tuesday night. Both nights of racing will air live on SPEED.

· The event is designed to highlight the star power throughout the NASCAR touring and regional series and is limited to non-national series competitors.

· The qualifying concept is simple: Race your way into the field. Translation: 2012 race winners and series champions received protected spots in the main events of their respective tour races. The remaining spots of each of the 34-car fields will be decided through heat races, and a last-chance race if necessary.

· Top-10 finishers in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division I national standings earn starting spots in the Late Model race.

· Heat races will be seeded by fastest lap speeds in each of the final practices. Locked-in drivers must still compete in the heat races to determine where they’ll start in the features.

· There will be two heat races apiece for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tours. The winners of each of the heat races will make up the front row, with a coin flip to determine which row will start on the inside and which will start on the outside.

· The Late Model division will have four heat races, followed by a special draw to determine starting positions one through four for the heat-race winners.

· The three international series champions – D.J. Kennington of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1, Jorge Goeters of Mexico’s NASCAR Toyota Series, and Spain’s Ander Vilarino of Euro Racecar Series, NASCAR touring series, received locked-in spots to whichever one of the three races they elect to enter.

The Late Model rules were announced in October and are based on both sections – Late Model Stock Car Division and Mid-West/West Coast Late Model Division – as outlined in the 2013 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Rule Book.

During 2012 Champions Week in Charlotte for the NASCAR regional and touring series, Daytona President Joie Chitwood unveiled the special event trophies. In a tribute to Daytona’s racing heritage, the trophies are designed to reflect those previously presented to race winners during the days of racing on the beach.

Entry blanks for NASCAR-licensed competitors are being mailed to competitors and are available through the NASCAR's membership website; non-licensed competitors are asked to contact Sharon Grzanich (sgrzanich@nascar.com or (386) 310-6324.

Fans can follow NASCAR regional and touring series (@NASCARHomeTrack) and Daytona International Speedway (@DISUpdates) on Twitter and stay up to speed on the latest news by using hashtag #NASCARBattle.
