Open Wheel Modified,
 Whynot Motorsports Park

As most fans know at Whynot Motorsports Park, the "KING of the Dirt" in our modified division here of late has been the red and black #K1 of Randy King. Everytime Randy hits the dirt, he finds his way up front bringing in another feature win, 1st of this season of course, beating out rival #34 Ben Stephens from Hattisburg, Ms.

Randy King wrapped up an astonishing season last year, almost becoming impossible to beat. That was until Randy had a bad wreck up in Jackson driving a LateModel. After suffering some pretty serious injuries, Randy climbed back into h is UMP Modified and took off right where he had left off, winning his first weekend back.

With all his wounds healed for the start of the 2013 season, we all were a bit surprised when #34 Ben Stephens took the Heat Race earlier in the night. Just as soon as the featured started though, Randy & his K1 machine took off. "It's like he drives his car on a rail, just like a trolly car", said one spectator after his 2013 season opening win.

Now i promise you, there is no rail that Randy races on, just pure talent and a great set-up that has him turning just right at Whynot Motorsports Park. Even though he missed several races last season, Randy was still able to finish 3rd in last years point standings losing by 120 points to 7x Kyle Rutledge.

CameronParker moves to fulltime UMP
Cameron Parker debuted his full time ride in the UMP series and after a few close calls, finally got his yellow painted #41 to pass a few drivers where he eventually finished 6th.

Ben Stephens finished brides mate once again and #25B Tony Hodge rounded out the top 3.
Jeffery Walker, driving the #11 did not have an impressive night getting caught up early in the night in the heat race.

General admission to Saturday's program, featuring the World of Outlaws at whynotmotorsportspark.com, which also includes racing for the NeSmith Crate Late Models, open-wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks, is $30 for adults, $15 for children ages 6-12 and free for kids 5-and-under. Pit passes will be $40.

3-Wide Photo Finish as Wayne Medders Barely Beats Competition

March 16, 2013

Street Stock Division Blog,
 Whynot Motorsports Park:

WayneMedders #111 MSSS contender
The winter brought a lot of excitement & inticipation for Whynot Motorsports Park this 2013 season after the announement of a new sanctioned division, Mississippi Street Stock Series. NeSmith and a few others helped organize a state wide racing division that will change the Street Stock racing across the state of Mississippi as tracks at Magnolia and Jackson & Whynot have all picked up on the series that begins at Whynot Motorsports Park next week.

22 hot rods cars showed up Saturday night for the weekly Street Stock division race. Most teams were there to prepare for next weeks opening of the Mississippi Street Stock Series. Drivers from all around brought their stuff, and boy, they put on a show of the ages as fans were all standing at the competion of the race as a battle in a 3-wide photo finish at the checkerd flag.

Right from the start of the feature, several good drivers had to start from the back. Drivers like #12J Brooks Motors Chevy, Chip Jones and #93 Stacey Robinson did not start exactly where they had wanted in the season opener.

Rookie driver, #4 Byram Trucking driver Matt Byram & his street stock Camero just could not find succsess in the ride brother Matt Byram left to advance to the LateModel class.

The white & red Chevy Camero wasn't the only driver to have bad luck. #5 Trey Bright, young kid out of Tuscaloosa AL, near about totaled his yellow paiinted car in the first part of the race. Front end & Rear end damage regulated Trey to a last place finish in the season opener.

#777 Brandon Leftwitch, in a Shade Tree Racing built chassis, had a right front blow out close to the end of the race after running in the top-7 all night. It unfortuantely regulated him to a 17th place finish.

DaveNations #56
#111 Steve's Performance driver Wayne Medders, from Morton Ms, was the car to beat during the beginning stages of the feature but driver of the #56 CJ Designs & Graphics 602 crate Dave Nations, from Raymond Ms, would not let the #111 get away from competiton as he tried several times to make a pass around the fast Medders in his red #111.

Mike Ladner of Biloxi Ms, driving the #3L 358 Buick sponsored by Twin Brothers Earth Movers, was very fast as well,  staying in the top 3 the whole race. When the late caution came out for #777, Brandon Leftwich who was trying to limp to pit road after letting go a tire, it pulled the field together for the final restart.

MikeLadner #3L MSSS
With less than 3 laps remaining, Dave Nations & Mark Ladner tried everything they had to beat Wayne Medders getting right up to his door, but when the checkerd flag waved, Wayne Medders picked up the street stock win in a photo finish that showed Nations, Ladner, door to door with Medders in a 3-wide finish. Fans were on their feet as they were treated to an awesome start of the 2013 season.

Wayne Medders, a local at Whynot,  finished 4th last year in the SS championship last year had 2 total wins in 2012. Wayne will be competing for the MSSS drivers championship, and after a quick start, look for him to be a top contender in 2013.

Whynot Motorsports Park,
Pure Stock Division:

BryantReynolds: Ultimate Car Care #4 Chevy
If you had the impression that the best racing depends on how fast they are going? You must not have seen the  feature show that the Pure Stock Division put on for us Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.

With only 5 cars competing in the feature, we expected it to be anybody's race to win, Bryant Reynolds, the "Dirt Track Cowboy",driving the #4 McCalls Lawn Service Chevy, was forced to sit out the Heat Race because he noticed fluid coming from his transmission after hot laps. After missing the heat, Reynolds was forced to start in the rear.

"Well I knew after hot laps, we (McCalls Lawn Service Chevy) knew we had a busted transmission. So, we laid out of the heat expecting to just cruise around until we broke in the feature", said Reynolds after his win Saturday Night. "We got out there, and next thing ya know, that joker just went", expained Bryant.

Bryant did not just take off in the first part of the race. The Orange Mopar car, #22 Mark Hollinghead, from Pulaski Ms, held the lead for almost half of the race getting almost a half a straightaway on the competition. A late caution bunched the field back up after a spin by the #14w driven by Jay Walker in turn 3.

DavidFranklin#40PureStock
On the next restart Reynolds had worked his way up to 2nd with #40, David Franklin, from Toomsuba Ms on his outside. The Orange Mopar ahd to very eager locals behind him and when he bobbled up in turn 2, Franklin & Reynolds were there to take advantage. Reynolds actually traded a little paint with his good friend, David Franklin who was on the low side coming out of 2.

After a quick door to door pass with the #40 car, 2nd year driver Bryant Reynolds was able to seal the deal as he brought home the win in the first race of the season at whynotmotorsportspark.com.

David Franklin, 2010 Mini Stock Champion, finished 2nd and Mark Hollinghead finished 3rd in the money.

Bryant Reynolds was a rookie last year and did very well for his first season as a driver, but unfortuanately, he finished 2nd in the PURE STOCK season points. This hot start on the season may be an early favorite to be the 2013 Pure Stock Points Champion.

The 2013 Weekly Racing Series continues this Saturday Night as we debut the 1st Annual World of Outlaws Super Late Models.

General admission to Saturday's program, featuring the World of Outlaws at Whynot Motorsports Park, which also includes racing for the NeSmith Crate Late Models, open-wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks, is $30 for adults, $15 for children ages 6-12 and free for kids 5-and-under.
